Infront of us stood the beast that Father had created, A weapon for the war, all gone sour.
It had already fell mother, and Father was yelling at me to run while he distracted it... but I was too afraid, I reconized the soul behind the beast... the friend I once knew... and I knew that he reconized me too...

Also in avian families it was not uncommon for someone not of blood relation to be concidered family... specially close friends.
