Artist's Comments

Once again I am slowly chipping away at my huge list of art I owe people... god I am slow. but you should be happy to know that I am practically done the several other commissions I have done, just have to finish up a last one before I can post them all (to be fair to everyone)

As for this image, it was quite a fun image to work on, since I was given the main idea of she likes elephants. So I got to have some fun doing a bit of research on the topic and to dig into some legends.

The main one that really set into my mind was the white elephant.

[link]

The term derives from the sacred white elephants kept by Southeast Asian monarchs in Burma, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. To possess a white elephant was regarded (and is still regarded in Thailand and Burma) as a sign that the monarch was ruling with justice and the kingdom was blessed with peace and prosperity.[1] The tradition derives from tales in the scriptures which associate a white elephant with the birth of Buddha, as his mother was reputed to have dreamed of a white elephant presenting her with a lotus flower, a symbol of wisdom and purity, on the eve of giving birth.[2] Because the animals were considered sacred and laws protected them from labor, receiving a gift of a white elephant from a monarch was both a blessing and a curse: a blessing because the animal was sacred and a sign of the monarch's favour, and a curse because the animal had to be kept and could not be put to practical use to offset the cost of maintaining it.

And yes I do know that actual white elephants are not actually white in colour, but a paler tan-ish colour.

So after choosing that I went into choosing what I wanted to do around the image and came across this flower, which has to be the most colourful flower EVER!

But I chose not to have it as colourful as that version since I felt it would have distracted from the elephant. But I did feel that I wanted to have something pretty, like a princess with the elephant, and then I remembered a scene from a movie called Protector, where the little boy was riding the tusks of a gentle beautiful elephant, and I felt that scene would be perfect. so my pose is very inspired from that movie.

omg, for a moment (looking at the thumbnail) I thought it was a giant-headed elephant in a dress! XDD

Really though, this is well done. The elephant looks very serene, and the girl is full of life :)
